It's been a while...
Since I was about 14 years old, all I ever wanted was to travel. I wanted to see the world; to see what else was out there, to see different cultures, meet a wide range of people, to find out what I'm missing. Because there must be more to life. What was I missing?
I spent so long putting off my life. I worked and saved money and plodded along, waiting for the time to come when I would make the leap. It took me years longer than it should have... probably. But it worked out and I set myself up pretty well at home, or so I thought. I wouldn't change it because maybe I needed that time to grow and to commit to the change.
So I finally did it. I made the leap. I left. And I'm so glad I did. I would have always wondered "what if?" and I know I would have regretted it for my whole life if I didn't.
But what happens when you finally make the leap? What happens when you get to the moment you've been waiting for your whole life?
What if it's not all you imagined? Or what if it is? What happens when it's over?
I've always been the daydreamer, and I've been really blessed that throughout my life, there have been many moments when I have been able to think to myself 'this is a dream come true'. Some are more momumentous than others. Some are easier to recognise the dream coming true in that moment than others. Sometimes you look back and realise that was a dream come true moment. Some take time, and for some, you had an idea of what the dream was but you're not exactly sure what you were looking for to know if it came true.
Once that dream come true moment has been and gone, what happens then? What happens when your dreams come true and then they're over? Sometimes it's bittersweet. Sometimes it's an ecstatic happiness, but also with a feeling of nostaglia, of loss, and fear, because you're been waiting for this moment your whole life. This dream has made you who you are; it's been what your whole life has been about up until now, and it's so scary that part of your life is nearly over. That chapter has finished and now you basically need to find a new person within yourself.
I've been so focussing on this adventure that I didn't think about what I was going to do after.
Sometimes I wish my dreams were like everyone else's. If I wanted the same things as my friends, life would be simpler, easier. Yes, it would probably be more traditional, and maybe it wouldn't really be me. But when you start dreaming big, you always have to dream big.
What do you do when all your dreams come true?
When your dreams come true... you find a new dream. x
